Caravan Style is On The Move!

    Posted on June 14, 2019

Another sunny day … It’s now June and we’re six months in, can you believe? It’s been quite a year already at this end, there’s a lot of exciting change ahead and I’m so happy to be sharing the news that we’re moving house!

The changes ahead are as much a surprise to me as to anyone else. I’d have happily carried on living in our little London house “forever”, so it had to be something very very different to pull me away. And it is. We’re off to a Victorian seaside bungalow later this year (with a few stops in between).

I am obsessed with vintage florals. I love old floral everything – paintings, fabrics, postcards, silk scarves, ceramics. The lot! I’m also a bit of a minimalist, which doesn’t always sit happily with this particular obsession, but I make space for my beloved collection of vintage floral postcards.

I find most of my cards in French flea markets, picking up a few each time I have the pleasure of a weekend in Paris, which is usually tagged on to a visit to the biannual trade show, “Maison et Objet”.

    A Ticket to Heaven

    Posted on June 6, 2018

Amidst the gables along the Amstel River in Amsterdam, a richly adorned gate leads to Swigters Almshouses. The gate is decorated with a sculpted tympanum depicting a hand and Latin text stating “Blissful is he who is gentle towards the miserable. The Lord will set him free on Judgment Day.”.

Isaak Swigters hoped that founding an almshouse would result in eternal life in heaven.

  • Caravan Style Silk Scarf Drapes

    Posted on May 10, 2018

I’ve had a lovely session going through silk scarves with a customer this morning – we were oohing and ahhing over the wonderful palettes and patterns that each tell such a unique story of their time.

I adore vintage silk and satin scarves and have collected quite a selection over the years, from which I pick out and put together to create our dreamy Caravan Style Silk Scarf Drapes. These striking lengths of eclectic vintage fabric hang beautifully as a window dressing or to divide a living space.

  • Showroomisation

    Posted on January 25, 2018

I’ve just returned from the Maison & Objet trade salon in Paris where it’s always interesting to see various key trends (urgh, that word!) highlighted and predicted for the year to come. This year it’s all about the exhibitionist approach to home decoration.

According to Vincent Grégoire, Director of M&O’s partner trend-forecasting agency Nelly Rodi, the modern day consumer seeks refuge from reality through ‘story-living’ and ‘showroomisation’.

Enabled by the internet, the consumer can learn, buy, and curate. And then show off. The consumer is now the art-director, the ‘prosumer’. The new design professionals, the new opinion-leaders.
